Lourd De Veyra’s Little Book Of Speeches

Masyadong malaman, nakakaaliw at nakakainspire.

Yung tipong after mong basahin yung isang speech parang gusto mong itapon yung libro at makibaka.

At talaga nga namang sagad to the bones ang mga panama.

May samaligo din ata tong librong to.

Kaya every year ko na ata binabasa to.

P.S.

Ayaw kong tapusin yung book. Sana. Sana talaga.

Me before you by Jojo Moyes

I never thought that this book would tug my heartstrings so much. I never expected it to turn out like that. It was so heartbreaking.

The book is easy to read, very understandable. The story is easy to follow. The settings and the scenes are very visual.

The narration of the main character as well as the other characters gives us their personal feelings and emotions about the whole plot, making it more relatable. You may even find yourself with one of the characters.

Even though the plot is a little bit predictable, you are still curious to confirm your hunch regarding the ending or that you are still hoping that somehow it will end on a happy note.

Suicide is a sensitive theme. It will always be viewed as something bad and immoral. However, this book is not about killing oneself. But it is about having the freedom and the right to choose what kind of life to live. It is about the importance of deciding for your own life.

However, despite the heartwarming and heartbreaking story, I find the book a bit stretched. There is so much detail in the book that it sometimes becomes boring. I know that the author is trying to establish the emotions of the characters through these scenes, but there is too much information in it that makes the story a bit dragging. It slows down the progress of the story.

Second, I don’t think the cover gives justice to what the book is all about. But then again, as goodreaders we should not judge books by their covers.

The story

Louisa Clark has been laid off from her work as a service crew. Being the breadwinner, she was pressured to immediately find a work to support her family.

That is why, she was left with no choice but to consider being a carer for a quadriplegic for six months. Taking care of her sick granddad, Louisa knows that she will be able to somewhat handle it. But she never expected the pressure and difficulty of caring for a stubborn and proud man, Will Traynor.

They did not start on a good note. Most of the time, she avoided Will and only attended to his need without much talking to him. However, as time goes on, she found and felt the sadness and loneliness of being in a chair incapable of doing anything.

She seemed to realiz the pain and depression Will is feeling. She saw how Will became devastated to lose the carefree life he once had. That is why, even though it was difficult to deal with his stubbornness, she became patient and understanding with him.

When everything seems to go out right between the two of them, Louisa overheard Will’s mother and sister talking about taking him to Switzerland to die.

She was devastated to find out that Will’s own family will allow him to kill himself. She talked to them to clear things out. But she was shocked that the reason why she was employed was to help them convince Will to change his mind within six months before the day of his death.

Louisa did her best to plan for trips and activities that Will will enjoy. But her first attempts only made Will miserable. But she did not lose hope and continue planning and researching activities that would help him. She was so into taking care of Will that she slowly fell in love with him.

Louisa thought that her love will be enough to change his life. However, she never thought that it was Will who have changed her life.
